Jakarta, Patient narrowing of blood vessels in the left coronary artery (Main Left/ LM) is usually recommended for heart bypass operation. But without the need for surgery, the problem of narrowing of blood vessels can now be overcome.

And Indonesia has become one of the few countries in Asia that is able to handle the narrowing of heart arteries Main Left without surgery. With no surgery, the cost becomes cheaper and more patients undergo unnecessary hospitalization.

"During this event the LM narrowing, heart disease experts generally will advise the patient to perform heart bypass operation, but the barriers are not all heart patients to perform heart bypass operation," said Dr. Dr. Muhammad Munawar, SpJP (K), FIHA, FESC , FACC, FSCAI, FAPSIC, FASCC, FCAPSC, expert heart disease Heart Binawaluya Special Hospital, in the event Media Briefing & Experience in Special Hospital Cardiac Binawaluya, Jl TB Simatupang, Jakarta, Thursday (15/4/2010).

Narrowing of the Left Main (LM) is the narrowing of heart arteries are the most important which is located at the base of the left main artery of the human heart.

This narrowing most commonly caused by atherosclerosis, ie fill in the form of deposits of fatty plaque, platelets, macrophages and leukocytes that can cause blood clots.

Refinements in the LM is a case of coronary heart disease is the most dangerous. If the constriction occurs, then nearly 2 / 3 part of the heart is not getting enough oxygen and nutrients, so the blood supply to the heart would be reduced. This condition eventually cause damage to the heart muscle that can cause death.

Dr Munawar said the handling of cases of LM without surgery done through a technique called percutaneous coronary intervention or Corronary Percutaneous Intervention (PCI).

This technique is specifically designed for open area at the narrowed blood vessel. Both the intervention technique with anti-thrombosis drugs or using drugs Salut Stents (Drug Eluting Stents/ DES) and Balloon Salut Drugs (Drug Eluting Baloon/ DEB).

With this method, PCI, LM case handling relatively short, safe and the results are satisfactory. "Patients who do engineering refinements LM PCI, could go home the next day, and can direct their activities as before without having to undergo inpatient at the hospital," said Dr Munawar.

Stents coated with medicine technology (DES), the possibility of narrowing again only 5 percent. In DES patients take prescription anti-thrombosis drug that can thin the blood (dual anti-platelet aggregation such as aspirin and clopidogrel) for 1 year without interruption.

However, if patients do not like or are allergic to the way DES, the drug coated balloon (DEB) could be the solution. In the technique DEB patients need only take anti-platelet drug for 4 weeks.

DES technique performed by placing the coated stent or a drug ring that serves to prevent the constriction, the constriction of blood vessels that experienced.

DEB techniques were carried out with the development of drug coated balloon in a narrowed blood vessel. After the balloon was developed in drug blood vessels and distributed, then the balloon deflated and removed from the blood vessels.

"DEB technique has proved to be a reliable choice," said Dr Munawar.

According to Dr. Munawar, technology can be developed to improve the quality of human life for the better, and eventually is expected to extend life. (mer / ir)
